The Bible vs. the Quran.
So now we have it. A United States politician, congressman Virgil
Goode (R-VA), sworn to uphold the United States Constitution and all that it
stands for telling his constituents that they had better beware of
immigrants based on their religion.
Goode has a problem with congressman-elect Keith Ellison's (D-MN) decision
to use the Quran at his ceremonial swearing-in. Said Goode "I fear that
in the next century we will have many more Muslims in the United States
if we do not adopt the strict immigration policies that I believe are
necessary to preserve the values and beliefs traditional to the United
States of America."
One would think that as a congressman he would know what the US
constitution says about religion. "Traditionally", that would be the
"Freedom of Religion" guaranteed to each and every citizen of this
country. And that would also mean that if a citizen of this country
decides to use a Quran to be sworn in then that is their choice.
Freedom of religion means that a person is FREE to choose to believe in
God or not. It also means that if a person does believe then that person
is FREE to choose which God they believe in. I do not remember the
constitution ever stating that it must be a Christian God.
Apparently Mr. Goode is a Christian and wants it mandated that all
official swearing-in ceremonies use the Bible. I guess that freedom of
religion according to Mr. Goode is indeed free as long as they choose
his particular religion and pray to his particular God. Sounds like Cuba
to me. You are free to vote as long as you vote for Castro.
I am not taking sides here. Personally, I am an atheist pig. Note that I
did not just say that I am an atheist. I called myself an atheist pig to
save anyone that reads this article the time. I just did it for you.
You're welcome.
I have never met God. Never talked to him on the phone. Never received
an email or a post card and I don't know anyone who has. I just don't believe. Presumably, according to
Mr. Goode, I would not be able to be sworn-in to public office. What
would I use? Certainly not a Bible. I am a non Christian - an atheist
pig! So if I have any aspirations of running for public office I guess that I
should just forget about them right here and now.
I wrote that to show the idiocy of his position and to show that
ignorance is not related to one's level of employment. We have a man
that works for the US government trying to censure another man's
religion. Imagine that!
No. The person to fear is Mr. Goode. He and the others like him are the
real danger. They want to tell everyone else what is good and what is
evil. And for sure all Muslims are evil. They attacked on 9/11 so they
and every other member of their religion are evil. That would only be
logical. Guilty by
association. You can't run for public office and use the Quran to be
sworn in. Just can't do it. It would be evil and against our "traditional
values." What a joke!
Hey wait a minute. Wasn't Mark Foley (R-FL) a Congressman, see
related article Foley's Folly, and
didn't he resign under pressure for having sent sexually explicit
internet messages to current and former pages under the age of 18? I
guess that makes Mr. Goode, and every other congressman, guilty too. If we are going to judge others
as guilty by association then Mr. Goode is certainly guilty. Seems logical to me.
You see, idiots only like their logic when it applies to others. Now that
I have deemed Mr. Goode guilty as charged, by association of course, I
wonder if he still believes in his logic.
